Guitar Hero

Guitar Hero
$2.99

What It Has: With the launch of the first Guitar Hero game, the franchise revolutionized the way that we play music in games. Now, it's revolutionizing the same thing for the iPhone and iPod Touch. Sure, the App Store is no stranger to Guitar Hero wannabes, such as Tap Tap Revenge itself; but nothing has ever been quite like this. Guitar Hero has all of the core components that you'd expect from a regular console version of this game, including full character customization, solid gameplay mechanics, and a full selection of excellent songs to choose from. A few interesting features added to this app are strumming, sliding, a whammy bar feature, and integration of note combos, requiring you to use more than one finger at a time; which are all done very well on the app. If there was ever any inkling of a Guitar Hero vs. Rock Band iPhone app debate, this app surely put an end to that. I've played both apps extensively, but this one blows Rock Band out of the water.

What It's Missing: To be honest, I'm not really a die-hard fan of the Guitar Hero franchise. However, this app does everything it claims to; and does it well. Some people may complain about the small amount of songs included in the app, totaling 6; requiring you to purchase extra song packs, costing $1.99 each. However, when you consider the extremely cheap cost of the game, $2.99, it doesn't seem so bad compared to another handheld version of this game on the Nintendo DS, where you'd be paying around $40. I did experience occasional crashes while testing this app, but from a fairly new app with an immense amount of data; it's understandable. Either way, you've most likely played a Guitar Hero game at least once in your life, and if you enjoyed it, this app is exactly what you'd expect; it rocks.
