Windows Live Messenger

Windows Live Messenger
Free

What It Has: Launching merely a few hours ago, I haven't quite as much time to test this app compared to most others. However, it doesn't take long to realize that this app does what it claims to; and does it well. Hosting a very fun and easy to use interface, Microsoft really put a lot of effort into this app. This app gives you one place to view of all your Messenger friends' updates from Facebook, Flickr, Myspace, and more. Adding photos to share moments with your friends is a breeze, and done very well. Now onto what everybody cares about; the instant messaging. It's very fast, looks great, is full-featured, and can even be set to send you push notifications when you close the app to assure that you never miss a message.

What It's Missing: Strangely enough, being launched on the very same day as the iOS 4 launch date, this app doesn't support one of the updates most anticipated features, multi-tasking; which is a huge plus for instant messaging apps. As to why Microsoft would launch an app that's behind the times on the same day that it's released in beyond me, but it should be included in an update in the near future. It's also lacking Twitter as a social network link, but that's a minor update compared to the lack of multi-tasking support.
